Branding and website design for a knitting shop

The Challenge

Maker + Stitch is a brick and mortar shop in Colorado selling fine yarns, knitting tools and accessories, and artisan-made home goods. They came to us for a logo and visual brand identity, as well as a website to sell products and allow customers to sign up for classes and other events.

Our Approach

Owner Cathryn’s hope was to create a place to experience hands on creativity, gather together and build community. We created a brand to appeal to a younger generation of knitters/outdoor enthusiasts. The new website is set up so that customers can easily participate in classes and events, if they’re local, and shop online, if they’re not.

The wordmark is made up of simple sans serif type that has the sensibility of Scandinavian design. The imperfect lines of the letters bring in the organic influence of Colorado. Ample space between letters gives breathing room and feels hygge.

For the branding, we wanted to create something cozy, but beautiful and not overly designed. We ended up zeroing in on modern-meets-rustic typography paired with smart details. The logo is Scandi-Colorado, classic but natural, clever but quietly welcoming.
