The Curious Pancake offers fun greeting cards with quirky illustrations. Exactly the sort of cards that illustrator-designer Claire Senior craved buying in card shops, but couldn’t find. So, in 2011, she started her own company to do just that.
Like many creative business owners, Claire created her previous logo herself and said, “I’ve been using my logo in its current iteration for about 4 years. I simply selected a font I liked the look of and typed out my business name! It says nothing about the creativity behind my business, it’s a totally creative-absent logo.” Her thriving business had outgrown the do-it-yourself logo.
For the new branding, Claire told us:
I would like the new logo to be able to grow with my brand, I would like to imbue some sort of illustrative creativity within the logo. Something fluid and vibrant that reflects the (largely) cheerful nature of our brand.

Designer Christine developed a brand identity and logo that is cheerful and quirky, just like The Curious Pancake. Instead of opting for a font, she hand-drew each letterform, creating a completely unique look.
We can’t explain the depth of thought that went into each curve any better than Christine, herself! Check out this lovely graphic she delivered to Claire, describing the new logo design:
A fun color palette and hand-drawn icons and patterns round out the complete package. It’s branding that delivers on the company’s emphasis on handwritten cards and friendly approach.

We don’t often report the results of a branding project because the gains aren’t as numerically countable as, say, conversion percentages on a website redesign.
However, when Claire shared her new logo on Instagram, the feedback was tremendously positive. We’d call that a fairly tangible result!
