Client's Problem

Crystal and Morgan came to us as Ladyburg, and they were ready to grow their brick and mortar bath and body business. They were terrified of a name change, but trusted us to help with their rebrand. They were truly tired of being called “Ladybug.”

Crystal told us,

I have to be honest and say I have been stuck with trying to figure out how we are different and that is hurting our ability to grow.

I feel that our business personality does not match our current packaging. If you look at our website our product label designs are all over the place. I want to stay with the type/age of customers we are attracting so I’d like our packaging/branding to be more “professional upscale” looking. I don’t want cutesy designs but a design that plays into our personality yet still be seen as a trusted brand.

Our Solutions

After Natalia helped rename Ladyburg to Sugar + Spruce, our designer, Ann, began work on the logo design, and said,

Overall, we need to infuse a bit of the fun sophistication that makes Sugar + Spruce so unique! Your products make people smile and feel special. The brand design should communicate the same story.

What Our Client Had to Say

Crystal Wellman, co-founder of Sugar + Spruce

I had tweaked my logo and style a couple of times but was never really happy. My brand had no consistent voice or style and I was ready to up my game. I “stalked” Aeolidia’s work for almost a year before deciding to make the best investment I have made to date for my business. All of the staff of Aeolidia was extremely professional and very talented. They listened to all of my hopes, dreams and especially fears to bring my new brand to life. I will 100% hire them again, maybe website?!

Branding Solutions

The new Sugar + Spruce brand is cheeky and fun, but also classic and sophisticated. After playing with many different typefaces and treatments, Ann kept coming back to the idea of the “sparkle,” which was inspired by the idea of “sprucing up” and brightness.”

Our goal was to create an element that feels slightly retro and wouldn’t overwhelm the logo. Since the expanded color palette is colorful and varied, the logo needs to retain some simplicity in order to work across all of the packaging and products. The sparkle is a simple symbol, but it is also one that appears in many beauty and cleaning products—a familiar and recognizable icon. I can see this being used in patterns, borders, design elements and other brand collateral as an accent that helps tie the design together.

Business naming

Sugar + Spruce

A play on the phrase, “sugar and spice and everything nice,” this name turns it on its head by taking a phrase that’s all about what girls/women should do and makes it about something women want to do: indulge in sugar scrubs, spruce themselves up through use of your products, and take time to themselves!

The name is fun and cheeky, but also flexible enough that it can grow with the brand, be dressed up or down, etc.

Even though Sugar + Spruce is abstract, I do think it hints at personal care through the use of the word “spruce.”
