Aeolidia to the rescue!
Steph was opening a brick-and-mortar store, offering home decor and gifts, in Wakefield, Quebec, Canada. The store is on the main floor with an Airbnb apartment on the second floor reflective of the design style in the shop. She knew the graphic identity for her brand would be important to establish, so she worked with the Aeolidia team to prepare for her opening.
Steph told us,
We attach sentiment to objects and that can make them valuable and worthy parts of our lives. The task is to find goods worthy of sentiment and evocative of place. That is my primary goal for the store. I would like it to be an experience that will draw people to my online store even if they can’t get to the physical location.
The business’ personality is whimsical, sentimental, vintage and design oriented, with a sense of humour.
Aeolidia to the rescue!
La Tortue de Wakefield’s branding features a striking simplicity combined with beautiful details. The vintage, design-oriented look suits its brick and mortar treasure-filled shop perfectly. A bold, slightly whimsical typeface features a wonderful balance between vintage and modern. The contrast in line weight harkens to Scandinavian Folk Art and Design without feeling kitschy.
The “T” is slightly larger than the rest of the letters in “La Tortue” which gives it added visual interest. Ample spacing between letters makes the logo easy to read. The primary logo type is paired with a simpler, sans serif typeface with a mid-century design aesthetic. This also keeps the logo friendly and not too serious.
A brand mark features a custom illustrated turtle. He’s a little bit mid century and a little bit folk art. Together, these elements keep the identity whimsical and beautiful, rooted in meaning and history. The mix-and-match nature of the elements also gives the brand flexibility to grow.
