Domi + Frisk is a new business selling unique cat products designed to fit your cat’s needs and your decor. Cat Demas, the business’s founder, came to us to create a memorable name and visually enticing logo to draw customers in and which would pair well with her uniquely designed, mid-century influenced cat products.

For this project we worked with Cat on defining her dream customer and differentiating her brand from the competition. We brainstormed a fitting business name with her, and then created a full graphic brand identity, as well as many print and packaging designs to keep her brand cohesive in all she does.
The main personality Ann wanted to convey with her design is a slightly retro and friendly vibe. She stayed away from the expected kitschyness to appeal to a modern customer with a higher level of taste. The Domi + Frisk brand should be quirky and fun, but also classic and sophisticated.
She settled on a gorgeous, curvy serif font. It feels fluffy and familiar but still modern and clean. Since the rest of the branding is colorful and varied, the logo needs to retain some simplicity in order to work across all of the packaging and products. The “+” is a brighter color than the words, bringing a vibrant pop to the logotype.
Domi + Frisk needs to feel luxe and more modern than the typical brands in the niche, which tend to rely heavily on cartoonish icons or less sophisticated branding. Cat’s brand needs to feel like a furniture brand.
Ann shared, “While I was working on the logo and sharing it with the Aeolidia team, many people remarked that the S reminded them of a cat tail or cat sitting. With this in mind, I customized the letter a bit to give it more of a “fluffy cat tail” shape. Since Domi + Frisk isn’t immediately recognizable as cat products, This subtle nod to your cat-loving customers helps connect the logo to the actual products.”

You mentioned wanting a name that is both sophisticated and whimsical, one that captures your love of pets and their happiness. You also emphasized that your brand is design-forward and your products are elegantly styled yet cozy and safe for cats. I explored these concepts by tying together ideas & words that hint at things like home, happiness, the majestic & elegant nature of cats, and imagery related to trees.
